Split payments: card, cash and gift card in one transaction

Split payments are live in Final POS: accept card, cash and gift card in one transaction, with cart locking, accurate refunds and validation in Flow Studio.

Split payments are live

Customers do not always pay one way. Now your checkout does not have to either.

Final supports split payments across card, cash and gift card, in any combination, in a single transaction. A customer wants to use up a gift card and tap for the rest? Done. Cash for part, card for the remainder? Done. The balance updates after each tender until it reaches zero.

What's included

Multi-method checkout. Accept card, cash and gift card in any order within one transaction. Final tracks the running balance and updates it after each payment step.

Cart locking. Once a split payment starts, the cart locks: no item changes, discounts or voids until the transaction completes or is cancelled. The balance stays accurate from first tender to last.

Full refunds to the original tenders. Refund a split order in full and Final returns the exact amount to each original payment method, with no manual calculation.

Partial refunds with priority rules. Partial refunds are distributed across tenders by defined priority rules, so the outcome is predictable every time.

Consistent rounding. Fractional-cent allocations resolve automatically, with the extra cent going to the final tender.

Validation in Flow Studio. Building a flow with split payments? Flow Studio checks the configuration before you deploy. Anything invalid surfaces as a clear error, so a misconfigured flow never reaches your cashiers.

Why it matters

Split payments come up constantly in retail and hospitality: gift cards at the holidays, customers short on cash, group tabs. Merchants used to work around it or turn customers away. Now it is a first-class checkout option, built on the same commerce rails as everything else in Final.

For agencies and resellers building flows for clients, the Flow Studio guardrails mean you can configure split payments with confidence.

Available now

Split payments are available on every account with Final Pay enabled. If you use a Flow Library flow that includes split payments, it has already been updated. To add split payments to your own flow, ask Flow Studio to add them; it validates the setup before you deploy.
