How to set up a composite product
A composite product in Final POS is a product made up of other products — like a combo meal or gift set. Create one by selecting Composite as the product type in the Merchant Hub, adding included items or choice groups, and setting a base price. Component stock decrements automatically on every sale.
What is a composite product?
A composite product is a product made up of other products — a combo meal, a gift basket, an assembly kit, a tasting flight. When you sell a composite, each component's stock decrements automatically, and the whole set appears as one clean line on the receipt.
Composite products are available to all merchants in the Merchant Hub.
Create a composite product
Step 1: Start a new product
In the Merchant Hub, go to Products.
Click New product.
Select Composite as the product type.
Step 2: Set the basics
Fill in the product's:
Name — the name your customers and staff will see
SKU — optional, for your own tracking
Base price — the starting price (see Pricing below)
Categories — assign to one or more categories, or leave blank
Outlet visibility — choose which Outlets offer this product
Step 3: Add components
Components are the products that make up your composite. There are two kinds:
Included item — a single product that is always part of the composite. The customer doesn't choose; it's always included.
Item choice — two or more products (or a whole category) that the customer or cashier picks from. You set how many they must choose.
To add components:
Click Add item in the composite builder.
Tick one product to create an included item, or tick two or more (or select a category) to create an item choice.
For an item choice, choose All of them or One of them, they choose, then set the minimum and maximum picks.
Mark any component as Optional if it can be skipped.
Enable Allow repeats if the customer can pick the same option more than once.
Tip: Pointing a choice group at a category means any product you later add to that category automatically becomes an option — no need to update the composite manually.
Step 4: Set pricing
Your composite has one base price, which covers the lowest-cost option in each choice group.
Each additional option in a choice group can carry an upcharge of $0 or more.
For variable products inside a choice, each variant can also carry its own upcharge.
Click Use price difference on any choice or variant to fill upcharges automatically from the difference between your existing product prices.
The Pricing card shows:
Price — your set base price
Derived cost — the combined cost of the cheapest component set
Price if sold individually — what the components would total at their own prices
Step 5: Configure tax
Choose one of two tax approaches:
Each item's own tax — tax is calculated on each component's share of the price, using that component's own tax group. Best for composites with mixed tax rates.
One tax group for the whole composite — assign a single tax group that applies to the full price.
Step 6: Save
Click Save. If any choice group has an impossible rule (for example, requiring more picks than there are options), the Merchant Hub will flag it before saving.
How composite products work at checkout
When a cashier adds a composite to the cart:
A selection screen appears showing the choice groups and included items.
The cashier (or customer, on a self-checkout flow) makes their picks. The cheapest option in each group is pre-selected.
Each component's own modifiers are available — a burger still offers toppings, a coffee still offers milk options.
The composite appears as one line in the cart, with component choices nested underneath.
The total updates as upcharges are selected.
If a required component is sold out or marked unavailable at the active Outlet, the composite shows as Unavailable and cannot be added to the cart.
Stock and inventory
When a composite sells, each tracked component's stock decrements automatically.
Stock history logs each movement and links it to the parent composite sale.
The Merchant Hub shows how many of a composite can be made at each Outlet, based on current component stock.
Refunds
Composite products are refunded as a whole. When you refund a composite:
All component stock is restored automatically.
Individual components inside a composite cannot be refunded separately.
To refund a composite, open the order in your flow's order history or in the Merchant Hub, select the composite line, and follow the standard refund flow.
Kitchen routing (food and beverage)
If you use prep station routing, each component in a composite routes to its own prep station based on its category. The kitchen receives the correct tickets for each part of the order.
"Used in composites" on product pages
Every product page now includes a Used in composites card. It lists every composite that product belongs to. You can also start a new composite directly from this card.
What's not included in this version
A few things are intentionally out of scope for now:
Modifiers on the composite itself — components keep their own modifiers, but the composite as a whole does not have modifiers
Pre-assembled kits or recipes that build their own stock (bill-of-materials style)
Refunding a single component inside a composite
A composite inside another composite
Bundle-level discounts or promotions
