Product images after migrating from Shopify or Square: what to expect

After a one-time catalog migration from Shopify or Square, Final automatically downloads your product images and hosts them on Final's own infrastructure. You don't need to do anything — the process runs in the background. Once complete, your images are fully independent of your old platform account.

Product images after migrating from Shopify or Square: what to expect

When you complete a one-time catalog migration from Shopify or Square, Final now automatically downloads and hosts your product images on Final's own infrastructure. Here are answers to the most common questions about how this works.

Will my product images survive after I close my Shopify or Square account?

Yes. After your one-time migration finishes, Final downloads each product image from your old platform and stores it directly on Final's servers. The image URLs in your catalog are updated to point to Final's copy. Once that process is complete, your images have no dependency on your previous account — you can close it whenever you're ready.

Do I need to do anything to make this happen?

No. The image download runs automatically in the background after your catalog migration completes. There's nothing to configure or trigger on your end.

How long does it take?

The image download runs as a background job after your migration finishes. For most catalogs it completes within a few minutes, though larger catalogs with many images may take longer. Your products are available in Final immediately — the image hosting update happens quietly in the background.

Will my image order or quality change?

No. Final downloads each image and processes it through the same pipeline used for all product photos in the Merchant Hub — including standard resized variants. Images are written back to your product records in the same order they were in originally.

What if an image can't be downloaded?

If an individual image fails to download for any reason (for example, it was already deleted from your old platform), Final keeps the original URL in place rather than removing the image entirely. Your product won't lose its photo — it will simply continue pointing to the original source until you replace it manually.

I migrated from Shopify or Square before this update. Are my images at risk?

If you migrated before this update, your product images may still be pointing to your old platform's servers. As long as that account stays active, your images will display normally. If you're planning to close your Shopify or Square account, contact Final support first — we can run a backfill to move your images to Final's storage before you cancel.

Does this apply to ongoing sync integrations?

No. This only applies to one-time migrations. If you use an ongoing catalog sync with Shopify or Square, your provider account stays active and image handling works as it always has — Final continues to reference the provider's image URLs, which is correct for a live sync.

Which platforms does this cover?

Currently, automatic image hosting after migration is supported for Shopify and Square one-time migrations. Support for additional platforms will follow as new migration sources are added.

Where do my images live after migration?

Your images are stored in Final's Media Library, the same place as any image you upload directly in the Merchant Hub. You can view, manage, and reuse them from Manage → Media Library.
