How to configure Tips

Configure tipping for Final Pay checkout in the Merchant Hub under Pay → Setup — enable tips, set percentages and labels, customize the Custom and No tip buttons, and reset to default.

Where to configure tips

Tip settings live in the Merchant Hub. Go to Pay, open the Setup tab, and find the Tips section — "Configure tip options for Final Pay checkout."

You may need permission to save: Editing these settings requires permission to edit payment settings. If Save Changes is unavailable, ask an administrator for access.

Turn tips on or off

In the Tips section, switch the Tips Enabled toggle on to show the tip selection dialog whenever Final Pay is used to accept a payment in your checkout flow. Switch it off to skip tipping entirely.

Tips apply to Final Pay payments only: Tip prompts are shown for Final Pay card payments. They are not supported for cash or custom payment types.

Set your tip options and labels

When tips are enabled, customers see preset tip choices at checkout. You can configure three presets, plus the Custom and No tip buttons:

  1. For each of the three presets, enter a percentage between 1 and 100.

  2. Give each preset a label of up to 20 characters — for example, 15% → "good", 18% → "great", 25% → "amazing".

  3. Optionally rename the Custom button (which lets the customer enter any amount) and the No tip button. Their labels are editable; their values can't be changed.

Keep labels short and friendly: Labels have a 20-character limit and show on the terminal, so short, encouraging words read best on small screens.

Save your changes

Use the Save Changes button at the top right of the page:

  • It stays disabled until you've made a change.

  • While saving, a spinner appears.

  • On success you'll see "Changes saved successfully."

  • If something goes wrong, an error message explains why — adjust and try again.

Settings apply to new checkouts after they're saved.

Reset to default

To restore the original tip presets and labels, select Reset to default at the bottom of the Tips section.

How tips appear at checkout

When tips are enabled and a customer pays with Final Pay on a connected terminal, they're prompted to choose a tip (one of your presets, Custom, or No tip) before the payment completes. If a tip was collected and you later refund the order, the tip can be refunded too — your reporting separates "Tips refunded" and shows "Net Tips" so your totals stay accurate.
