Station Home: open, close, and switch sessions in Run

Everything Station Home does in the Run app: open and close sessions, switch users, manage cash, and review session reports and transactions — all from the home screen of a Station.

Introduction to Station Home

Station Home is the home screen of a Station in the Run app. It's the hub your staff return to between tasks: from here you open and close sessions, switch between users, and reach the Station menu for cash management, session reports, transactions, and Station Settings.

Station Home is the anchor of the app. If Run is closed in the middle of a shift, it reopens here, and any session you had open is still active. Within a flow, a Home Menu Link button — or any button set to the Go to Station Home action — brings staff back to this screen during a session.

What you see on Station Home

The main panel shows where you are and whether the till is open:

  • Outlet name and address — the location this Station belongs to.

  • Station name — which till you're on (for example, "Front Counter 1").

  • Open or closed status — an illustration that reflects whether the Station currently has an open session.

The button in the centre changes with the Station's state. When the till is closed it reads Open New Session; when a session is already open it reads Resume Session and takes you back into the flow to keep selling.

The Station menu

Tap the menu icon in the top corner of Station Home to open the Station menu, where the rest of the actions live. The menu greets the signed-in user by name (for example, "Hey, Alex!") and shows only the options that user's role allows, so a staff member's menu may be shorter than a manager's. The menu can include:

  • Switch users — hand the till to another staff member.

  • Session Reports — review the close-out report for past sessions.

  • Transactions — see payments taken at this Station.

  • Cash Drawer — manage cash in the drawer (shown only when Cash Management is on).

  • Station Settings — configure the device and its hardware.

The last option depends on whether a session is open: when the till is open it shows Close Session (to end the shift), and when it's closed it shows Log out (to sign the current user out and return to the account picker).

Note: If a menu option you expect is missing, your role may not grant access to it. Session Reports, Transactions, and Station Settings each depend on a matching role permission, and Cash Drawer depends on both Cash Management being on and your role's cash access. Ask your Owner to update your role in the Merchant Hub under Manage → Team → Roles.

Sessions

A session is a single trading period at a Station — usually one shift. Opening a session starts the till and lets staff ring up sales; closing it ends the shift and produces an End of Session report. Sales are always recorded against an open session.

Opening a session

From Station Home, tap Open New Session. What happens next depends on whether Cash Management is turned on for your flow:

  • If Cash Management is on, you're prompted to enter your opening cash float — the cash already in the drawer at the start of the shift — before the session opens.

  • If Cash Management is off, the session opens straight away and takes you into the flow.

Once the session is open, the till is ready and you can start selling.

Resuming a session

If a session is already open — for example, after the app was closed, or because another staff member started the shift — Station Home shows Resume Session. Tap it to go back into the flow and pick up where the till left off.

Closing a session

  1. Open the Station menu and tap Close Session.

  2. If Cash Management is on, count the cash in the drawer and enter the closing amounts so the till can reconcile against what it expected.

  3. Confirm to close. Run shows an End of Session report you can print or return Home from, and the session is saved so its report stays available under Session Reports.

Tip: Sessions can be set to close automatically after a period of inactivity, so cash still reconciles even if a staff member forgets to cash out. This is controlled by the flow's settings.

Switching users

Several staff can share one Station without fully signing in and out. Whoever is active when a sale is rung up is credited with that sale, and tips are attributed the same way, so switching users keeps your reports accurate.

  1. Open the Station menu and tap the greeting at the top (it shows the current user's name).

  2. On the "Choose your account" screen, pick your account from the list, or use Search your name to find it.

  3. If a PIN is required, enter your 4-digit PIN to log in. Some stores also allow scanning an ID badge instead.

Whether a PIN is required to switch users is set on the flow. When it's off, tapping your name logs you straight in; when it's on, you're prompted for your PIN each time.

Note: Can't find your name? Ask your manager to set up an account for you in the Merchant Hub. Forgot your PIN? Your manager can reset it under Manage → Team → Users.

Cash Management

When Cash Management is turned on for your flow, which can be configured in Merchant Hub, Run tracks the cash in the drawer throughout the shift. Opening the Station menu and tapping Cash Drawer opens the Cash Management screen, which lists your sessions on one side and the cash ledger on the other. The screen shows the Opening balance and Current balance for the selected session, and lets you:

  • Open Cash Drawer — pop the physical drawer (requires a cash drawer connected to a compatible receipt printer).

  • Add Cash — record cash put into the drawer, such as a change top-up.

  • Remove Cash — record a cash drop or payout taken out of the drawer.

  • Add a note — attach a note to the cash ledger so the reason for a change is on record.

You can also Print Ledger or Print EOS from here. Every entry is recorded against the session so the drawer reconciles at close.

Note: The Cash Management screen has two tabs — Cash Drawer (the cash ledger) and Session Reports (the close-out reports). Tapping Cash Drawer or Session Reports from the Station menu opens this same screen on the matching tab. If Cash Management is off for the flow, the Cash Drawer option doesn't appear and opening or closing a session skips the cash steps entirely.

Session Reports and Transactions

Session Reports

Session Reports lets you review the close-out report for any past session at this Station, without leaving the till. Pick a session from the list to see its report, which is organized into Details (when the session opened and closed, and who opened and closed it), a Sales Summary, a Fees Summary, and a Payments Summary showing net payments received per tender type after refunds. You can print any report. This option appears only if your role grants access to session reports.

A session only has a report once it has been closed. If you select a session that's still open, Run lets you know the report isn't ready yet.

Transactions

Transactions lists the individual payments taken at this Station, so staff can quickly find a recent one. It's the Station-level view of the same activity you'll find in the Transactions report in the Merchant Hub. This option appears only if your role grants access to Station transactions.

Working offline

A Native Station keeps working when the internet drops — you can keep ringing up sales, and orders sync once the device reconnects. When you go offline, Run shows a notice that some features are unavailable until you're back online, and actions that need a live connection are paused until the Station reconnects.

FAQ and troubleshooting

The button says Resume Session, but I want to start fresh. Resume Session means a session is still open on this Station. To start a new one, open the Station menu and Close Session first (reconciling cash if prompted), then Open New Session from Station Home.

I don't see Cash Drawer in the menu. Cash Drawer appears only when Cash Management is turned on for the flow and your role includes cash access. If it's missing, check the flow's settings in the Merchant Hub, or ask your Owner to update your role.

A menu option I need is missing. The Station menu hides options your role doesn't allow. Session Reports, Transactions, and Station Settings each depend on a role permission. Ask your Owner or manager to turn on the relevant permission under Manage → Team → Roles.

It's asking for a PIN to switch users — can I turn that off? Whether a PIN is required to switch users (and to start a session) is set on the flow, not at the Station. An Owner or organization user can change it in the flow's settings in the Merchant Hub.

Why don't I see a report for my current session? A session only gets a report once it's been closed. Close the session from the Station menu, and its report will then appear under Session Reports.

Run reopened to Station Home in the middle of a shift. Did I lose the session? No. Station Home is where the app always reopens. Your open session is still active — tap Resume Session to go back to the till.

Frequently asked questions

The button says Resume Session, but I want to start fresh. What do I do?

Resume Session means a session is still open on this Station. Open the Station menu and Close Session first (reconciling cash if prompted), then tap Open New Session from Station Home.

Why don't I see Cash Drawer in the menu?

Cash Drawer appears only when Cash Management is turned on for the flow and your role includes cash access. Check the flow's settings in the Merchant Hub, or ask your Owner to update your role.

A menu option I need is missing — why?

The Station menu hides options your role doesn't allow. Session Reports, Transactions, and Station Settings each depend on a role permission set under Manage → Team → Roles.

Can I turn off the PIN prompt when switching users?

Whether a PIN is required is set on the flow, not at the Station. An Owner or organization user can change it in the flow's settings in the Merchant Hub.

Why don't I see a report for my current session?

A session only gets a report once it has been closed. Close the session from the Station menu and its report will appear under Session Reports.
