Terminal Guide - Stripe Reader M2

How the Stripe Reader M2 works with Final Pay — a compact Bluetooth reader for mobile payments — plus pairing, taking payments, and troubleshooting.

About the Stripe Reader M2

The Stripe Reader M2 is one of the payment readers compatible with Final Pay — a compact, lightweight Bluetooth reader for mobile payments. It's built for mobile and roaming sales: line-busting, deliveries, markets, or taking payment anywhere in the store.

At a glance

  • Form factor — compact, pocketable reader built for mobility.

  • How it connects — pairs over Bluetooth to a Native Station device (phone or tablet) running your point of sale.

  • Payment types — tap to pay (contactless) and chip, plus digital wallets.

  • Connectivity — Bluetooth.

  • Availability — Native Stations only (not Virtual Stations).

  • Power — rechargeable battery; charge between shifts.

Specifications: Connectivity and supported payment types above reflect how the reader is used with Final Pay. For full hardware specifications — exact dimensions, battery life, and supported regions — refer to the manufacturer's product page for this model.

Best for

  • Perfect for taking payments away from a fixed counter — at the table, in line, or curbside.

  • Because it connects over Bluetooth, keep it near the paired Station device during checkout.

Connecting your reader to a station

The Stripe Reader M2 is a Bluetooth reader and connects on a Native Station.

  1. Power on the reader and keep it nearby and charged. On the Station device, make sure Bluetooth and Location are turned on — both are required to discover a Bluetooth reader.

  2. On the Station, open Station Home, then go to Station Settings and open Payment Terminals.

  3. Next to Bluetooth Terminals, hit Discover. The Station searches for nearby Bluetooth terminals.

  4. When the Stripe Reader M2 appears, click it to connect. Once connected, it's ready to take payments on that Station.

Native Stations only: Bluetooth terminal payments are available on Native Stations, not Virtual Stations. If you're on a Virtual Station, switch to a Native Station to use a Bluetooth reader.

Taking a payment

Once connected, your reader follows the checkout flow on its station:

  1. Ring up the sale on the station as usual, then at checkout tap your flow's card (Final Pay) payment button.

  2. The amount is sent to the Stripe Reader M2. The customer taps or inserts their card, or uses a digital wallet / contactless.

  3. If tips are enabled, the customer is prompted to choose a tip before paying. (Set this up in Payment Setup → Tips.)

  4. If signatures are enabled, the customer signs before the payment completes, and the signature is stored with the order.

  5. When approved, the payment is recorded in the Payments area and the receipt can be printed or sent.

Customize the checkout experience: Tips and cardholder signatures are configured once in Payment Setup and apply across your supported terminals. See "Configuring Tips & Cardholder Signatures."

Care & everyday tips

  • Charge the reader fully before each shift so it doesn't run out mid-sale.

  • Keep it connected over Bluetooth (paired to a Native Station device running your POS) so payments go through without delay.

  • Keep the card slot clean, and use a protective case if the reader travels with you.

  • Install updates when prompted so the reader stays secure and current.

Troubleshooting

  • Reader doesn't appear when you hit Discover — make sure it's powered on, charged, and within Bluetooth range, and that Bluetooth and Location are enabled on a Native Station, then hit Discover again. If it still doesn't show up under Station Settings → Payment Terminals, close the Final POS app completely and reopen it, then try Discover again.

  • Reader connects but won't take a payment — confirm the reader is the one connected to the station running checkout, and that the station has an internet connection.

  • Card payments are declining — try another card to rule out a card issue; check your connection; review the payment in the Payments area for the decline reason.

  • Bluetooth keeps dropping — keep the reader close to its paired device, make sure Bluetooth is on, and re-pair if they lose connection. Keep the reader charged.

  • Battery won't hold a charge — charge fully before a shift and use the official cable/dock. If it degrades over time, contact support about a replacement.
